Approximately 20 years ago Jacques Poppen was involved in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Jacques had no interest in horses and was actually uncomfortable around them at that time. However, his soon to be wife, Eva was and is passionate about horses and rides Friesians and teaches dressage.
In 2005 Eva decided that Jacques needed to get out and about and rigged up a driving carriage for his wheel chair and took him off for a carriage drive. At some point that day he was handed the reins and the rest was history.
In 2006 Jacques competed in the Para World Competition and came in second. This success was followed in 2008 at the next Para World Competition which he won. He also just won this year's World Competition which was held at Sandringham, England in June 2014.
In the Netherlands Jacques has established a reputation for being particularly successful in hazards and more recently in dressage and as a result is sought out as a Trainer in these aspects of driving. His driving career includes participating in regular competitions where he places at the top levels. He drives a Friesian Arab cross gelding and has another young Friesian mare started
