SEC
offers a spectrum of boarding options to you and your horse,
letting you determine the services and cost appropriate for your
situation. All options provide comfortable surroundings and
complete nutrition delivered by experienced staff. Below is
a short overview of what we offer. Please call for a
full listing of services offered and prices charged for more
specific information.
Accommodations
Include:

Pasture
Horses
can be entirely at Pasture. Sargent is fortunate is having
over 100 acres of irrigated pasture in 7 to 15 acre units, all
surrounded by horse safe vinyl fencing reinforced by braided hot
wire. A balance of growing and dry pasture is maintained,
allowing us to accommodate both easy and hard keepers.
Horses are kept in compatible mixed groups which are closely
monitored and adjusted when necessary. The price of
pasture-only board for the fully retired horse versus
the horse in regular work varies to reflect the cost of
maintaining the arenas.
Stalls
Stalls
are 12 x 12, bedded deeply in shavings and cleaned at least
twice a day. Larger 12 x 18 stalls in the show barn
and the 16 x 16 stalls of the breeding barn are available
for stallions, breeding mares, mares and foals and other special
situations. Additional 12 x 12 stalls with run-outs
will be added in 2009.
All
horses in stalls are turned out if desired at no additional
charge.
Nutrition
In
addition to pasture and high quality hay, all horses at SEC are
supplemented with up to 8# of Sargent's Low Carb Feed (SLCF) per
day as part of basic board. SLCF is a palatable low
carbohydrate, high fat feed which is formulated for us by King
Feed of
Salinas
, after analysis of our hay and pasture. Fed as a warm
mash daily to both stalled and pasture horses, SLCF is a beet
pulp based feed supplemented with the needed micronutrients to
assure that each horse receives a balanced and complete diet.
Stalled horses are fed twice a day if on turn-out, and three times
a day if in the stall full-time.
Additional
supplements, purchased by the owner, can be fed at no cost for
stalled horses and for an additional fee for pastured horses.
Additional
Services
Arrangements
can be made for the delivery of virtually any service to your
horse, including but not limited to grooming, bathing, clipping,
blanketing, fly prevention and mask, booting up. Depending
on the board program you chose there may be an additional charge.
These services may be arranged on a regular basis or you can order
them occasionally, such as a spring bath and clip for a pastured
horse, or special attention and grooming for you horse when you
are out of town.
Special
Services
The
SEC staff will work with you and your veterinarian to provide
wound care, administer medications, and develop and implement
graduated exercise and turn-out programs as required. All
SEC horses are required to be on an effective worming program and
to have their feet cared for regularly. These services can
be scheduled by the SEC and recharged to the owner if desired.
